How to set up a Website Filter on my Dlink Ultra AC5300 Tri-band Wifi router?
The users efficiently utilize Website Filter to restrict access to the malicious and dangerous websites that a user doesn’t want to get access to within the network. The user could also restrict the specified URL or could block the specific keywords within the URL to restrict access to some ina inappropriate websites. The feature is somehow similar to the Parental Control feature but is only different from the fact that it is unable to restrict the usage of the Internet for a particular duration. It is triggered through the web interface of www.dlinkrouter.local or could be configured through the same web management window.
Steps to setup a Website Filter on Dlink Ultra AC5300 Tri-band Wifi router
- Launch a web browser on your computer and type www.dlinkrouter.local on the web address of the browser. If the user is facing any error to reach the default gateway of the router, he could type in the IP address of the router into that address bar. The IP address of a Dlink router is 192.168.0.1, which you could mention as the URL to get to the default web page.
- Now, hit the enter button on the keyboard and you will finally reach the www.dlinkrouter.local login page.
- Mention the default credentials within their respective fields. Type the username “admin” on the username field as a default credential. If you have assigned the password during the Dlink router setup process, mention it otherwise you need to leave the password field blank as a default credential.
- Click on the login button and the www.dlinkrouter.local main web page appears on the screen.
- Go to the Features tab residing on the top right of the main window, then click on the Website Filter tab.
- The user could create a list of all the websites that he doesn’t want to be accessed within the network. For that, the user has to select “Deny nearby device’s access to these sites”. The user could choose this option from the drop-down list.
- After choosing the above option, all other websites will be allowed to access.
- If the user wants to specify a list of websites, only which should be allowed within the network, then he has to choose “Allow the nearby devices to only access these websites” from the drop menu. All other websites that you haven’t mentioned will get immediately blocked.
- The user should keep one thing in mind that he could mention a maximum number of fifteen websites to get blocked within the main network. The user needs to click on the Add rule tab if you want to add a new website to the list.
- The user could also enter the domain or URL to deny or allow the entry of a particular website within the network.
- Click on the Save button when you are done making the list of websites that are allowed or denied to access the network.
Here are some notes that a user has to keep in mind while configuring the Website Filtering in the Dlink Ultra AC5300 Tri-band Wifi router.
- The user could delete an assigned rule by clicking on the trash icon residing within the delete column. If the user wants to edit a rule, the user could do it by replacing the URL with its domain.
- Some websites of https can’t be blocked using the Website filter feature like Youtube, Amazon, etc.
Note: The user must confirm that the DNS is enabled or not. (The feature is enabled by default)
