Dlinkrouter.local – How to update the firmware of a Dlink router manually?

The firmware of a Dlink router should be updated regularly whenever a new firmware is available to maintain the performance level of your device. New firmware can be updated either manually or directly through the dlinkrouter.local interface. Once a user gains the access to the router’s interface, you can directly update the firmware with a single click.

Note: Experts suggest users update the firmware of a router over a wired connection instead of a wireless one.

Steps to update the firmware of a Dlink router manually

  1. Visit the http:// support.dlink.ca website of a Dlink router to download the latest firmware for your device.
  2. Keep the downloaded firmware on your desktop somewhere, where you can easily access it.
  3. If the downloaded firmware file is in a .zip format, make sure to extract the file either using the Winzip or WinRar.
  4. Once you are done with the installation process, open a browser on the computer or laptop whatever device you are using.
  5. Type either dlinkrouter.local or 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of the browser.
  6. Press enter and the default management page of the router appears on the screen.
  7. By default, type admin in the username tab, and in case you haven’t applied the password yet, leave the password field blank.
  8. Click login and you will get redirected to the web menu Dashboard.
  9. You don’t require the Wifi to access the configuration page of a router. The Internet is only needed for installation purposes.
  10. From the web menu Dashboard, Click the Tools tab on the top right corner and click the Firmware tab on the left side.
  11. Now, click Browse to find out the file you downloaded of a new firmware version.
  12. Once you find the file, select it and click upload to begin the installation process.
  13. The installation may take around 3 to 4 minutes to complete.
  14. When the installation process gets done, follow the screen prompts to complete the process.
  15. You can check the details of a newly installed firmware in the Status tab of the dlinkrouter.local main window.

Note: While updating the firmware manually, make sure that you haven’t downloaded an outdated version. An incorrect firmware version may corrupt the device and may degrade the performance level of the router.
